Word Cloud

Thank you to www.Wordle.net ceated by Jonathan Feinberg for allowing me to create my very own "Word Cloud" from my Blog.

WEATHER FORECASTER

MY WEB USE

I know and understand how to subscribe to a RSS feed on all my favorite Web sites so that it can be added to my Google Reader. It has become one of the most useful ways for me to gather all the links that I enjoy together on one Web site to visit instead of visiting each one separately like I did in the past.
I understand and now pick out the Dos and Don’ts when it comes to Etiquette on social Web sites. I definitely look over what I post on any Web site and social networks.
I did not know much about Wiki before this class. I have learned it is a collection of linked webpages that people contribute their expertise on specific topics. That Wiki is a central location for businesses projects so that everyone can have access to it and can attach relevant documents. I had no idea that since 2007 Wiki’s have become more popular the Blogs.
I had never heard of Linkedln before and now know that it is a social network to connect with other professional colleagues. Might help me get that inside connection to the company I am looking to work for. It is much different from Facebook where it is helping me build a professional profile for employment. Also I can find other users that share the same professional interest as me. This is definitely a social network that I would love to be a part of when I am ready to look for employment in the near future.

TWITTER ETIQUETTE

"Twitter Etiquette: Five Dos and Don'ts" is a guideline to follow when using your Twitter account.
(1) “How to Follow and Un-Follow People,” pick the people that you want to follow you but don’t feel obligated to follow them back. Only follow the ones that you feel you have a common interest with. You should follow people that you trust. Don’t feel offended if someone chooses to un-follow you.
(2) “Be Up Front about Your Twitter Aspirations,” always make clear of who you are on Twitter and what you represent, even if you need to add a link to a personal page of yours.
(3) “Be Personal,” don’t be afraid to be yourself! Tweet about issues that have meaning to you are welcome.
(4) “Reciprocate Gracefully,” implies to be honest, respectful, and unselfish of others opinions but don’t be afraid to define your views on a subject even if it stirs the pot a little.
(5) “Use the Direct Message Correctly,” which allows you to reach out to a follower privately. Remember that those direct messages are sent to them through email. These are messages that are not any concern of the other followers. If you are considering posting their message on Twitter make sure you ask permission first and then include there name.

FINDING YOURSELF

I put my name Emily Faith Snyder in the Google search engine without using quotations and I came out with about 4,300,000 results. None of these recommended Web sites refer or belong to me. Mostly MySpace pages and obituaries are recommended belonging to other Emily Faith Snyder's. After about the 4th result it starts to break my name down and spell my last name differently to get results.
Next, I put my name in quotations, "Emily Faith Snyder" and I only received about 6 results. Again none of the results belong or are about me. The same first few results came up and some new results.
I’m not surprised that there aren’t any results within these searches related to me. I make sure that with every Web site or Social site I add myself to that I change the privacy settings right away.

SOCIAL NETWORKING ETIQUETTE

“Social Networking Etiquette: How to Introduce Yourself and Others Politely” gives tips on handling questions that come up during introductions on Facebook and Linkedin.
“Decide on a Friend Strategy,” you really need to think about who you want to accept as a friend on either social network.
“Communicate a Clear Policy to Potential Contact,” the key here is to communicate clearly your policy on accepting friends on either social network.
“Don’t Ignore Friends, or Friends of Friends,” it is ok to ignore users if they do not message letting you know how they know you or are spammers. If they do send you a message you should be polite and respond back.
“If the Answer is No, Offer Alternatives,” if you don’t feel comfortable being friends with them on one social network let them know that you are a member of another and ask them to join you on that one.
“Be Specific When Sending Invitations,” explain how you know the perosn because sometimes people don’t remember and it could bring back a memory.
“Give a Heads-Up When Brokering Connections Between Friends,” unless you are sure that the two people you want to introduce will accept each other you should always ask both beforehand so you don’t put one in an awkward position.

DIGG

NO, I do not feel that Digg reflects the current news as it is reported on traditional online news Web sites. Traditional online Web sites like CNN or Fox news have video, breaking news articles, pictures and more on their main page. Digg just post links with just the first few lines of the article to draw you in that you have to open.
On traditional news web sites articles are not listed by popularity they are only listed by what is current, top priority, or breaking news. I see Digg as one big community that many contribute to and share what they feel is news. Digg also allows others to share their opinion and vote on stories so that it can be seen as a popular/top story.

TEXT MESSAGING ETIQUETTE

“Text Messaging Etiquette: To Text or Not to Text is an article about giving you 6 simple tips to ensure that you never become rude or annoy others while texting on your cell phone.

1) “Too many texts?” Unless you know the person very well there comes a point when you need to just stop texting and call or email them.

2) “Reconsider that texted marriage proposal,” is talking about major events, important information, or news about your life should never be text to others.

3) “The “other people” factor,” means keeping your texting if you absolutely have to, to a minimum when around others. Don’t be rude.

4) “Keep it simple,” means using abbreviations or just a simple word when texting others.

5) “A reply is not always needed,” means you don’t always have to reply with a text you can reply with a phone call or email message as well.

6) “Never be “that guy” or girl,” is a simple way of telling you that when you are at an event, movie theater, private/public gathering you should excuse yourself if you absolutely need to text on your phone.

BLOG ETIQUETTE

The article “The 5 Rules of Blog Etiquette” list and describes 5 rules to go by when blogging or commenting.

(1) “If you quote someone, you need to link.” Always ask permission and link to the original post when using someone’s quote. This can be used in your advantage which can earn you back links

(2) “Don’t repost without permission.” Is taking someone else’s complete post and posting it as your own without permission. It is wrong and can get your blog shut down by your host.

(3) “Take the time to respond to comments.” Readers take time out to read your post and comment so the least that you can do is do the same. It shows readers that you respect and appreciate their commenting.

(4) “Be respectful to those who disagree with you.” We all know that not everyone is going to agree with your opinion on posts but you don’t have to come back and be rude. Whether they agree or disagree in there comment on your post be appreciative and thankful for the comment and move on.

(5) “Don’t leave spammy comments on the other blogs.” A lot of bloggers like to comment on a lot of post to drive traffic to their own blog. Make sure you read the post carefully and leave a well thought out comment.

COMPANY USE OF RSS

The article "Software Marketing" talks about all the advantages of using RSS and Atom feeds and how emailing is losing its effectiveness within companies. Even though some companies still use the email newsletters, to accommodate to customers more companies are adding the RSS and Atom feeds to their Web sites.

The article talks about weblog, and how very similar it is to the functionality of RSS news feeds. Blogger, owned by Google, maintains a heavily linked network of weblogs, ensuring additional exposure within the blogging community.

The article also mentions FeedBurner services if you are wanting your news feed to support the common flavors of both RSS and Atom. Using FeedBurner's technology, your SmartFeed is capable of supplying your news in Atom format. By forcing all your subscribers to use only your SmartFeed URL allows you to maintain and monitor accurate usage statistics through FeedBurner.

The company RB Garage RSS feed provides you with the latest press releases and announcements from the REALbasic developer community. This company stays true to its site and is hosted by Blogger.

GOOGLE READER

So after subscribing to feeds in Google Reader I have found some advantages and disadvantages.

An advantage to subscribing to feeds would be that I can post the Web sites that I am subscribed to on my blog and share with my followers so that if they enjoy the same sites they can see the up to date information while visiting my blog. Another advantage that I see is that when I am searching for something in general I can just type in the search term and it will search for Web feeds containing that term and give me a list of sample feeds which I can go through and subscribe from there.

A disadvantage would have to be subscribing to too many Web feeds and I don't have the time to look at all the updated information. Another disadvantage is that the feed reader only displays the title and the first few lines of the story. You still have to click on the link and enter the Web site. This becomes a hassle when you want to read up on updated information from different Web feeds.

WIKI ETIQUETTE

“WikiEtiquette” is about pin pointing some rules to follow when editing pages on Wiki.
Some general Wiki rules may include: writing clearly, avoid deleting others contributions, avoiding the “click here phrase”, don’t copy and paste others content unless given permission, correcting typos, and being polite and courteous.
Comments are welcome on Wiki. You should always sign your comments on Wiki, you might want to link your signature to your page, if you haven’t already. Also think about what you are going to write before commenting on others page, you never know what you write might be on the site for quite some time.
When thinking of a WikiName you want something short, descriptive, easy, logical, more like a short title, and try and make it at least two words if possible. Always double check your WikiName for typos!
If you are looking to refactor a page you are looking at a process to sum up a page by shortening it to make it more accessible. This process is usually left up to the more experienced Wiki visitors. Some things to consider when refactoring a page is to look at both sides, be careful not to change their meaning, always give credit where credit is due, and use plural instead of singular in your summary.

WIKI

"When a Wiki Goes Corporate" is about how much wiki is an effective tool and helps when collaborated with a company.

MindTouch has upgraded to Deki Wiki, “which extends the ability for communities and businesses to deploy enterprise-class custom applications and mashups” said by Aaron Fulkerson founder and CEO.

The Executive staff at SmugMug.com, sees wiki as a huge importance because it brings interactive content. They have open use of external wikis which allows other companies and communities to add their own twists and tricks to the website. Requires energy and efforts, and to stay in control. They say it is well worth it to stay up to date and fresh.

Mzinga.com provides on-demand solution for leveraging the power of workplace and customer communities for which growth and innovation. Aaron Strout believes that enterprises to build wikis into their overall marketing plan. He practiced what he preached and found out by trying to get others to contribute information for the content of his new book that wiki doesn’t work. Strout expects to see an explosion of new uses for wiki in enterprises and warns companies that don't have at least the foundation for wiki are going to be left out.

INTRODUCTION

My name is Emily Snyder, I am married and have two beautiful children. My husband is in the Air Force and we are currently stationed at Columbus AFB in Mississippi. I am a senior at Stephen F. Austin State University and plan on graduating in December with my Bachelors in General Business.
I have three favorite websites that I visit everyday. My first and all time favorite is www.thefrugalgirls.com they are always displaying the best deals around town, freebies, coupons, and giveaways. Another favorite is www.pineconeresearch.com to see if they have any availabel surveys for me to take or products for me to try out. This research company pays for each survey you participate in or product you try and give your opinion on. Last but not least I would have to say www.facebook.com it is the number one way to keep in touch with all my family and friends across the world. It also keeps me updated with the news and events going on in the community and on-base.
